I was beginning to worry about you. Your recent posts were not annoying in the least. Glad to see you're still you. :)
Reason it isn't a disgrace: The white enclosure apparently was causing trouble with the camera due to light leakage. You would most likely be calling that disgraceful if they had indeed released a 500$ phone with that rather huge flaw, so I guess they can't win.

I know the reason, or the supposed reason (who knows, Apple has been as tight lipped as ever on the issue) . If true, its a disgrace it made it to the keynote presentation, without the issue being identified or a reasonable fix found. I don't care how you square it - being 10 months late for a device who has an average life of 12 months is utter incompetence and hence disgraceful.

Hats off for Apple sticking to it, but that does not take away from the fact that they should never have made the promise w/o a better understanding of production issues. The iPhone 4 design has been around since at least January per spy shots of the iPad before release. So, its not as if the design was so new that they could claim there was no time to identify the issue until after the June 2010 keynote by Steve Jobs.

Thought it would (roughly) convey Steve's thoughts on all the leaks this year, using a hit that most people are familiar with.

What makes lesbian porn so likable?

    Something I like, times two.

    Next question please.

Yes sir, you in the balcony, with your pants around your ankles.

The man-hating lesbian was created by egotistical straight men, who couldn't believe that a woman would choose another woman over a man.

    Bruised egos? How quaint.

None of these are Holiday related.

Personally, I try to avoid anything Holiday-related until I am done with school. Helps me keep the focus on important exams. So in eleven days, I'll change wallpaper ;)

It depends on how you compare android to iOS. I personally get a full day out of my android phone. Thats with texting all day, one class where i am streaming peers papers the entire time. I am on wifi the entire time. I play Gameboy games for much of the day when i am on the bus. I listen to music when i am going around time on my long board. In all my phone is never in real sleep mode. When I first got the phone my battery life was about an two hours to two hours and a half, then I learned to shut off apps. I love the user interface more then apple. Yeah it lags occaisonally but i get to have all my lovely widgets where i can easily access them. I can see what my next apointment is just by unlocking my phone. I can read an email simply by swiping left. I can send, read a text message just by swiping right. I love it has every thing I need. If it doesn't work you it won't work but for over a million of us it works perfectly. iOS is not Android and Android is not iOS if it works for you it works for you no need to bash the other. I like iOS I just can't see my self using it as a phone OS.

The beauty of iOS is that it is more then just a phone OS. Flexible to run on Apple TVs, iPod Touches, iPhones and iPads. I also like the fact that Apple designed there application multi-tasking so that developers could decide how heavy they needed the multi-tasking to be. This gives the advantage to using the battery as efficiently as possible. I really do not like how difficult Google made it to kill off background tasks by burying the stop mechanism several levels under the setup.

Two and half hours of battery life is pretty bad and that is exactly what I am getting out the Andriod phones I use and work. I do not have that problem with the iPhone. I can do my work using the iPhone all day and not have to hook it to the charger or worry about killing off back ground tasks.

I can appreciate you not wanting to get into a bashing contest. You do come across a little on the "I am going to set these guys straight" attitude, though.

I will say this, I highly doubt that Android would have anywhere near the saturation that it does now if it were not for the BOGO phone deals that have been going on since Andriod came out. Apple is competing with LG, Google, Motorola, Samsung and HTC all of which are putting out several models of Andriod phones a month and doing the BOGO deals on most of them. I for one am glad Apple does not do that. For one thing BOGO hurts the resale value of the phones. Also, a lot of the manufactures modify the Andriod OS specific to the manufacturers needs. This creates the problem where you have to rely on the manufacturer for the update.

Apple makes it easy. You know when the refresh cycle happens and there is consistency to how the updates are done and it is controlled by one company. Google has created an inconsistent experience for the users. I can tell you first hand that not one of the various Andriod phones I use at work has a consistence interface from one another. I can easily pickup my wifes iPod touch or my iPad or the iPhones at work and they all have the same consistent feel and look to the interface.

Phil Schiller, Steve Jobs, and Scott Forstall at iOS 4 introduction (Source: CNET (http://news.cnet.com/8301-30252_3-20002084-246.html))

Earlier today, All Things Digital conducted a telephone interview with Steve Jobs and other Apple senior executives, covering the location tracking controversy (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/04/27/steve-jobs-interviewed-on-location-tracking-issues/) and white iPhone 4 delays (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/04/27/steve-jobs-and-phil-schiller-on-white-iphone-4-delays/). All Things Digital has now followed with a full, edited transcript (http://mobilized.allthingsd.com/20110427/qa-jobs-and-apple-execs-on-tracking-down-the-facts-about-iphones-and-location/) of the portion of the interview covering the location tracking issue.

In the full interview, Jobs discusses why it took Apple nearly a week to respond to the issue, noting that the company needed to take the time to investigate the situation and figure out how best to relate the information to the public."We're an engineering-driven company," Jobs said in a telephone interview Wednesday. "When people accuse us of things, the first thing we want to do is find out the truth. That took a certain amount of time to track all of these things down. And the accusations were coming day by day. By the time we had figured this all out, it took a few days. Then writing it up and trying to make it intelligible when this is a very high-tech topic took a few days. And here we are less than a week later."Most of the other points of the interview were covered in the earlier highlight piece, but the full transcript also includes new details about how the location database works and about Apple's views on user control over location services.

When pressed on what services Apple might be developing using location information, Jobs referred only to the potential traffic service (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/04/27/apple-hints-at-future-turn-by-turn-gps-directions-with-traffic-for-iphone/) disclosed in the official Q&A, declining to expand on that with additional information or possibilities.

Exactly, Apple wouldn't care if you did. What you sold would be 2nd hand and have no warranty etc.. The same I assume would be true of T.J.s. As non authorized dealers they have bought some iPads and would be selling them as second hand items. Buyer beware.

Why is everyone under the impression that Apple is Sony, Dell, etc?
Apple Warranty is valid for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc buyer of the same product because Apple doesn't do that ridiculous crap of killing off a warranty based on resale. It is based on the dated receipt. If you have a receipt, and it is within the 1 year warranty, it's covered.

I have bought and resold my main computers over and over again. I sell when I reach that last month mark. The buyers are always covered for that last month, and if they so choose, they can buy the 2 year extended before that final month is over.

I hope this means we will see HDMI out on the next MacBook Pros. I really want to be able to use my soon-to-be-had MacBook Pro Core2Duo as a media center too. With that said, here's to hoping the new MBPs have HDMI and the ability to output Dolby PLII and at least 1080i. My current 1.25ghz G4 book chokes on 720p so I never hook it up to my plasma HDTV.

    B

    Added:
I'm still not convinced that Blu Ray is going to beat out HD-DVD.
Well the MacBooks Pros already have DVI-out which uses the same protocal as HDMI (the only difference is that HDMI also carries audio, which DVI does not). Adapters are going for only a few /$.

We'll see. I'm hopeful for maybe 4.4. We'll see how enthusiastic the cpu is about doing that.. I'm going to be using a CM Hyper 212+ which isn't the absolute best cooler you can buy but it's also not something ridiculous like $80. Still, it will annihilate the hilariously tiny stock intel cooler for sure.

Does anyone know if the AMD 6970 is compatible with GPU2? I can't really find any conclusive information on it and of course I can't try it myself yet. Some people say forcing ati_r800 works but others don't.

4.4 would be great. you should easily hit over 4 though. i've heard intel's cooler is better with this one, you'll have to let us know.

i haven't used an AMD card for folding, so i can't really comment. i guess you'll have to share your experience with this one! ;)

As far as putting limitations on digital content, that's their right. It is _their_ content. If they make the wrong decision, they'll come around when someone smarter makes the right one.

I think this is just the point. Thay have made the wrong decisions. Again and again. We now have a situation where all of the DRM incentives so far actually stimulate piracy. Because circumventing the rights management results in a better consumer experience.

    Here's an example.

I own hundreds of DVDs - I was a classic early adopter. I like to get movies early. I live in the UK and the movie studios like to release movies later in Europe. So I own a large collection of Region 1 DVDs. I also rent a lot of DVDs perhaps 3 or 4 per week. These are all Region 2.

But the DVD drives in Apple computers are all region-locked. Five changes and that is it. So you have to pick. Rented disks or dvd collection.

So thanks to a studio-imposed attempt to control the market. They are undermining my legitimate enjoyment of my own movie collection. I do not feel grateful to them for this. It might be their right - but it is morally wrong.

As a customer I resent their interference. I regret paying for so many disks because my experience has been soured. If you are a loyal customer, your loyalty should be rewarded and not punished.

The way to beat piracy is to identify loyal paying customers, and guarantee them a better, more convenient, more rewarding experience. Send them newsletters. Give paying customers free iPod versions. Give them behind the scenes extras. Shiny boxes, free competitions. Reward them for paying.

But instead they are so terrified of piracy, that publishers are willing to ruin the experience of paying customers in the impossible hope that it will slow down the access of non-paying customers.

Consumers punish this sort of behavior. And they have a right to do that - even if its only a moral right and not a legal right.

There is a similar case in which a teen brought her 7 year old sister to an apartment where she was gang-raped for money. The case is falling apart due to lack of evidence. They probably all wore rubbers.

A girl pimped her 7 year old sister. Animals don't do stuff like this.

TRENTON City police have charged a 15-year-old girl as an accomplice to the gang rape of her 7-year-old sister.

You, sir, owe an apology to animals. The people who did this to that 7-y-o are sub-animals, and my stomach literally turned at the thought of the suffering that little girl endured.

Regarding the 11-y-o, I read about this on another blog, and everyone there were uniformly disgusted by this comment. Children cannot give consent, and it doesn't matter if she was "asking" for it either verbally, or based on the way that she was dressed. She cannot legally give consent to sexual relations, so she was raped! There is no ambiguity, and I am surprised this cretin was able to dig to the bottom of the sewer to come up with one.

Usually, I get pretty excited about new technologies and standards, but this just isn't doing it for me...

I've finally resigned myself to having a mirror set of hard drives for backup. Storing to removable media is too hard to organize, requires too many discs, and the optical discs don't have a life span long enough to make me comfortable. With the information density of BluRay I'm sure the recordables are going to have lousy longevity. I'll stick with live copies that I can keep testing the checksums on.

So, for me they're nothing more than a distribution method for high-def video and the fun has even been taken out of that by all the DRM shackles they've wrapped around it. I wonder how many people are really going to throw out their whole home entertainment system just to be able to play BR discs. If the recordable discs are $50, I'm sure discs with content will be at least that much-- and I can't back up this expensive, fragile data? I've got enough $12 DVDs I can't watch on my Mac because they've gotten scratched. Can't watch it on any computer I chose? Can't rip it to my iPod?

(come to think of it, $50 recordable media is probably all the DRM they need... Who's going to make an illegal copy when the blank media costs more than a DVD player?)

And doesn't the DRM phone home?!?

Nah. I'll wait. Hopefully by the time the media price has gotten low enough to make it worth it I'll have found myself with the equipment to actually view them and some Scandinavian kid will have cracked the encryption.
