What happens if your I-485 is denied? Are you able to fix any issues or do you start all over? And on what grounds would they deny?
Most common grounds for I-485 denial are:
1) I-140 denial
2) Being out of status
3) Fraud
4) Not responding to an RFE in a timely manner
5) Unknowingly abandoning your application.

I was listing to NPR Diane Rim show. Not sure who guests were. But When Diana asked if there is any chance that bill might come back.. He said, no bill won't come back but there is chance that some pieces of immigration may come in seperate pieces in around sep. He did say some bill might come for High skilled.. He gave example of Bill Clinton's health care immigration bill.

Hey everyone,
I am from Florida and just filed my I-485. I went to the DMV yesterday to renew my drivers license and something unexpected happened. They took away my old license and gave a temporary one valid for 30 days. They also said they will have to verify my immigration status and once this is done they will mail my new drivers license. Has anyone had such an experience? How long did it take to get your new license?
Its a common practice. Don't worry, you will get your new DL in mail before 30 days. Samething happened to me when i moved to Maryland state, they took my old DL and gave the new DL. You cannot have more than one DL at any time and so they have to take the old one.

Forgive me but being an active volunteer I am seeing state of the affair so was compelled to make these comments.
You are on 8th year of extension and this is a very stressful moment for you.
IV probably can't help you a lot at this time as it is after the fact but it can help others before such thing happens.
We are a growing union, which is run by people like you and me. If folks are not actively involved loobying for a) getting laws changed b) developing relationships with law makers and USCIS c) creating leverage of our unity over lawyers, these incidents will continue to happen.
If we had become powerful enough, then in the cases like this IV would have hold high level meeting with USCIS to resolve this gentleman problem. But unfortunately, we are still a strugling union to get members to volunteer.

My company has been supportive through this process and its only my lawyer whose been horrible.
While part of me wanted to do strangle her, the other part (guessing the sendible part) made me realize I needed to get this resolved.

Nope...once you have used your EAD you cannot go back to H1-B. AFAIK.
but I am not an expert so I guess others around here might have a different take. Best,

I cracked up reading the post. I never really understood why they call us losers and locusts.
Google translation maybe funny but i think the meaning of the post on Chinese forum is serious. When we giving money to IV which is working for everyone in the backlog, Chinese are only thinking for themselves. Scratch the, Chinese are not thinking for even themselves, they are cutting the same branch of the tree on which they are sitting. They are undermining the effort to address the green card backlog. They are trying to use fuzzy match to argue against removal of per country limits in the the process shooting themselves on the foot. If I understand their logic correctly, these Chinese are saying that we are ok if they have to wait in the backlog for years and years, as long as Indian don't get any benefit. That's just plain dumb for them to think like this.
The other day someone posted that Chinese are calling Charles Oppenheim at DOS, asking him to not advance the dates of Indians, and rather only advance the dates of Chinese, which apparently backfired.
I have many good friends from China and they are all very nice. But as a group why do we always see Chinese digging hole everywhere?

I do not plan to travel until I obtain the GC. Where can I find I-94 expiration date and does I-94 have to be renewed with a valid (not expired) passport? TIA.
You might have recevied I-94 at POE when you entered in USA with H1B visa (or it may be part of your h1b approval notice) For H1b extension, you need to attach the copy of the latest I-94. I dont think you need to attach copy of passport, when you extend H1B status or I-94 with in USA.

While taking a VISA appointment , there is a question which says "Are you applying for same visa class that expired in the last 12 months?"
Here are my doubts
1. I had a H1 B VISA which expired in May 2007 processed by my previous employer. As I am applying for the same VISA class , but though a differnt employer, should the answer be 'YES'?
2. Since my daughter will be appearing for the H4 VISA interview for the FIRST TIME, Is she also eligible to come along with me if I choose "YES" to the question "Are you applying for same visa class that expired in the last 12 months?".

There are tons of such sites/companies that will issue a travel insurance & will issue a letter with all the wordings mentioned by the consulate. You are possibly looking at abt $50-60 bucks depending on your coverage (lowest specified by consulate ) & length of stay (15 days)
You can ask Humana to issue you a letter stating to coverage amount that you will be covered while on your visit to Sweden. When I was traveling to Italy, my insurance company did issue me such a letter & I didn't have to buy anything.
