While I'm with you on the speeding, let's take a look at deaths caused by automobiles.

    44,128 [2007 WISQARS (http://webappa.cdc.gov/sasweb/ncipc/mortrate10_sy.html)]

So for every 4 people that die due to motor vehicles, 3 die due to firearms.

    Did you know that?

It's especially frightening when you consider the utility motor vehicles bring to our lives. They not only get us to work, they deliver our goods across the country. Motor vehicles are an integral part of our everyday lives. They get us to the grocery store, the soccer field and haul massive amounts of material across the nation.

Guns, if stored properly, sit locked away in a cabinet, rarely seeing the light of day.

Yet they kill nearly as many people as all motor vehicles.

    Is that insane?

Yeah. That's what I've been trying to tell you.

Exactly, so it is very reasonable for a pediatrician to be concerned and endeavor to remind parent's that they need to take steps.

Great, a shoot out on a plane loaded with innocent bystanders.

I'd take that 1 in a billion risk (especially since they have non piercing projectiles) over being heckled and manhandled by TSA any day. And that way I have at least a chance to stay alive if a hijacker makes through security, which they will eventually do even with current "security standards". International travel security was sufficient before 9/11. All they needed to do was raise US domestic security to that level and add sky marshals to ALL not just some flights. Problem solved. Again, 9/11 were domestic flights, NOT international. There was a security problem with DOMESTIC travel in the US, NOT international. You can roll your eyes until they pop out, doesn't change the fact that you are being fooled by the fearmongering of governments ever since 9/11 so they can piece by piece whittle away your rights to privacy and not having to risk your health for stuff like business travel.

He is a male, just like me, I can't believe you don't understand that...

He thinks he is female which is a whole other thing

Oh boy- the ignorance displayed in this forum sometimes can be staggering.

I bolded a key word in your quote. IMO

I'm not looking to stir anything up, so stop insinuating.

Just because I have a different opinion from you doesn't justify your annoying statement, "your act is wearing thin"

Really guy? I could care less about what you think so stop -__-

You certainly do come off as less than compassionate. That's for sure.

Nice one, Steve ... he's worked for it.

We're here for a good time, not for a long time.

Actually, it was just at least a decade of intentional neglect. Also, most of the work was done by lawyers and architectural consultants.

I'm not fond of Spanish Revival, but this is not the way of doing things...

I hope this is a fake. What is the long slot on the side? Is it a spot for a memory card?

I think this is for the Volume Button... not memory card slot... It will probably look like the new iPad volume button.

    - Gay ArtsI thought that came naturally to them?
    - Gay Phys.Ed.Oh, now that is just weird. I suppose if there are no straights in the class. But anyway you could just teach dance, that would take care of that.
    - Gay Comp.Sci."How do you start a gay computer?"

Because it is not material to my point.... In the slightest....

Another analogy: "I am a basketball player. A regulation basketball weighs 96 pounds. I am right, because I am a basketball player and you are not."

    Silly? Yes.

Wow. It's clear you have no intention of learning anything. You just want to be right. Nice.

Why are you using fear as part of your argument? I shouldn't have to have a gun on me to feel safe in my community. It's not saying I feel immune to crime, but fear of crime shouldn't drive a person.
Not fear of crime, but rather, the desire for self-preservation. Is someone else providing that safety for you? Or are you providing it for yourself? It sounds like you're taking option 3, and not providing it at all. FYI- the supreme court ruled that the police have no legal obligation to provide for your safety. Their job is only to catch the criminals during/after a crime - not to prevent it, and not to "keep you safe". Do you also choose not to wear your seat belt in your car, because that's for people who always fear collisions, and fear of an automotive collision shouldn't drive a person?

Yes, I own a few guns and I carry a hand gun on my person anytime I leave the house. To run errands, to pick the kids up from school, you name it, I'm carrying. I look it at the same way as the fire extinguisher I have sitting in the corner of my kitchen. I really really don't want an occasion to use it. Ever. But should that occasion arise, I absolutely want to have immediate access to it. Without that fire extinguisher, all I could do is stand in the front yard and watch my home burn to the ground waiting for the fire department to arrive. Carrying a hand gun is no different that that fire extinguisher in my kitchen or the airbags in my car. I don't ever want to use them, but having them can mean the difference between life and death. It doesn't mean I'm being driven by fear of kitchen fires or vehicle collisions.

Violent criminals frequently use guns to kill people. That is a fact, and there is absolutely nothing you can do to change that. Nothing. All you can do is arm yourself to level the playing field.

Given the choice, I'd much rather have the robber hold me up with a knife, than a gun.
Yes, because violent criminals give you a choice. lol. Next time you're in that situation, be sure to voice your opinion to your assailant. Please sir, if you are determined to rob me, please kindly exchange your hand gun for a knife. lmao. Oh wait, you may not even have the chance to ask, because now you're dead. He shot you because he felt like it, and there was nothing you could do to stop him.

Seeing as that it doesn't have any place for the antenna (like the black area towards the top of the 3G iPad), i'm very skeptical with this picture.

First thing that occurred to me, too. These are fake.:(

Is this going to be used ultimately to rate posters (kind of like the Apple site for one example)?
That's the "reputation system" question. I continue to dislike the idea that being a member is a competition (even though for fun I track statistics on who posts the most).

How is abuse of this going to be addressed?
    See my earlier post.

If all its used for is the post itself, I dont see any value for this. That's been addressed too. Putting the post-vote system in place necessarily has to precede using the data to provide other new features.

What are MRs (Arns and the other Gods) thoughts on what they want to do with this?
It hasn't been decided, but it could include ways to find or highlight highly-rated posts. I hope there's a way to use the feature to find the best answers in technical/help threads. Perhaps there's a way to turn post votes into thread ratings; I'm not sure about that.

I do think there should only be "ups", but the icon could be a checkmark. When you click it some subtext would appear below/next to it. Something like "You liked this comment" or "You agree with comment" or "This comment was helpful".
Those are both worthwhile ideas. Most uses of the votes would be to identify good posts, not single out bad posts, so positive votes provide the more useful information. The data is there to tell you how you voted so feedback on your own vote seems like a nice touch.

Perhaps allow a post that receives a certain number of dislikes to be "hidden" from a general view unless someone decides to view it by clicking on a link.
I wouldn't favor an automatic system like this. Since you can't tell the reasons for people's votes, it could eliminate less popular posts in debates, leaving you unable to follow the discussion. And if all visible posts agree with each other, why have a discussion at all?

If there was such a system, I think it should be entirely voluntary, e.g., you can ask to see only certain posts based on votes. But I think the back-and-forth nature of discussion, with users quoting and building on previous posts, would make this less useful than it sounds. Perhaps it would be worthwhile having a User Profile setting to hide the voting system completely from users who aren't interested in using it. But we have to put our programming resources where they will do the most good.

Like some of the posters here I can think of ways to slice and dice the data, (what threads in a given forum have the highest percentage of positive-rated posts?) and ways to collect other information (rating posts by multiple criteria, e.g., "helpful") but the system has to be kept simple to work in practice. That's one argument in favor of having the arrows in all forums. But perhaps we'll learn that voting does more harm than good in certain forums, e.g., in political discussions.

Remember that forum features are designed to provide benefits to the overall membership. Your comments in this thread help us find the best ways to do that, so thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Apple should spend the money spent on pointing fingers at others and no a bumper is not a fix. It only happens to 1% of the users? Greeeeat. That's 1% more than it should. So get to work and stop trying to look at others failures that are similar to yours.
What's apple trying to say? That they are failing At fixing something just better?

Nope, they're saying that nearly every phone has the same problem because nobody has been able to figure out a way around physics, so even though barely anybody is calling in to complain or return a phone we are going to give you something for free and other companies won't even though their manuals tell you the same thing we are telling you.

    How so. Please elaborate?

The decryption keys are everywhere and not top secret. Each iPod and iTunes has access to them. If you can get your hands on them you have something like hymn or FairKeys. Where does one get the encryption key?

EDIT: BTW I'm quite serious, if I got it wrong please help me understand where you're coming from.

    B

Ok. Explain how Jon from Norway has now for the second time managed to crack Apple's _encryption_ and nobody has yet found any way to crack the _decryption_? (For those who don't remember, the encryption between Mac and Airtunes has been cracked, and now the encryption method of iTunes songs has apparently been cracked).
